One-to-one support that builds confidence, calm, and learning
Is your child bright, capable, and curious — but struggling at school?
Gentle one-to-one tutoring that works with your child’s nervous system
I offer individual tutoring for sensitive and neurodivergent children that focuses on emotional safety first — because learning happens best when a child feels calm, seen, and understood.
When pressure is removed and learning is explained in a way that makes sense to them, children naturally regain:
-
Confidence
-
Curiosity
-
Motivation
-
Enjoyment of learning
Academic progress follows — without forcing.

Subjects I tutor
I work with primary and secondary aged children, offering tutoring in:
-
Maths and English (up to age 16)
-
Biology (up to age 18)
-
Spanish and German (up to age 18)
-
Creative expression: drawing, painting, emotional expression
Other subjects are available by request, including music theory, animal care, and nature-based learning.
Regardless of subject, my approach is always the same:
supporting your child’s sense of inherent worth, confidence, and capacity to learn.
How my tutoring helps sensitive learners
Children who work with me are often:
-
Easily overwhelmed at school
-
Distracted or shut down in class
-
Labelled as “behind”, “unmotivated”, or “difficult”
-
Bright but anxious, dyslexic, autistic, ADHD, or highly sensitive
Through calm, attuned one-to-one support, children often become:
-
More relaxed and regulated
-
More willing to try
-
More confident in their abilities
-
Happier in themselves
“After just three sessions, our daughter’s confidence returned. Her reading and writing improved dramatically — and for the first time, she began reading for fun.”
How tutoring sessions work
Tutoring sessions are one hour and available:
-
Online (Zoom)
-
In person in Ōakura, Taranaki
I’m kinaesthetic and flexible — movement, breaks, creativity, and real-life examples are welcomed. Children are not expected to sit still or perform.
This is nervous-system-aware tutoring, not pressure-based teaching.
Why I specialise in sensitive and neurodivergent children
As a child, I was written off academically — not because I wasn’t capable, but because I was highly sensitive and couldn’t process learning in a noisy classroom. Once I was taught in a way that made sense to me, everything changed.
I’ve been working with children and young people ever since — especially those who’ve been misunderstood, underestimated, or labelled.
I have extensive experience supporting children with:
-
ADHD
-
Dyslexia
-
Autism / Asperger’s
-
Anxiety and high sensitivity
I’ve yet to meet a child who couldn’t learn once we understood why they were stuck.
Support for parents
If your child is struggling academically, supporting you as a parent can make a significant difference.
I also offer sessions for parents to help you:
-
Understand what’s happening underneath behaviour
-
Support learning without stress or pressure
-
Advocate more clearly for your child at school
This work often strengthens and accelerates tutoring progress.
